the inkosi langalibalele local municipality is a category b municipality situated within the uthukela district in the kwazulu-natal province. it is the smallest of the three municipalities in the district but makes up a third of its geographical area. it was established by the amalgamation of the imbabazane and umtshezi local municipalities in august 2016. the majority of the municipality~s population is concentrated in urban and farming areas but there are a few patches of high-density settlements within the informal areas. the municipality boasts well-established industrial commercial and residential areas as well as rich agricultural farmlands. escourt is the largest commercial centre in the midlands region. weenen is a small agricultural town that is starting to emerge as a tourist destination. the n3 national road traverses the municipality.
